Take a Look Inside the Very First Sports Leadership Summit

The inaugural Sports Leadership Summit began alongside the hundreds of other Alephs and BBGs attending various Pre-IC Summits with an address from an impressive group of gamechangers and inspiring leaders.
Colin O’Brady, a professional endurance athlete, took the stage again to share more about his story of overcoming obstacles to reach seemingly impossible goals, while Eric Fingerhut, President and CEO of Hillel International, sat alongside International BBYO leadership including representatives from the Board of Directors, Argentina and the Balkans to discuss their meaningful experiences shaping their Jewish communities.

The rest of the evening was spent off-site at a local high school where we jumped right in to play and train on the field and heard from Steve Leibowitz and Rachel Shmidman of American Football in Israel.
Thursday kicked off with a motivating conversation with Olympic Triathlete Joe Maloy, who helped us better understand how people can connect through sports and how competition can help us bring out the best in ourselves and the people around us.

We also heard from two remarkable panels made up of experts in sports marketing who shared their experiences in branding and their careers in the sports industry. They shared their advice on the skills that can help us excel in careers both in and out of sports, including: the importance of identifying your passion, being driven by a common purpose, taking risks, networking, balancing flexibility, staying true to who you are and being strategic and intentional. They also shared an insider’s view of how a brand is built and the incredible influence athletes and celebrities can have as advocates for important causes that they care about.
We then had the opportunity to come together and discuss what we learned and think about how we can utilize sports to gain leadership skills, engage others in BBYO and improve our communities. This first Sports Leadership Summit is just the beginning—we will be heading home with new motivation, inspiration, and the skills and ideas to help elevate AZAA and BBGG, utilizing sports in new and interesting ways to enhance the BBYO experience.
